10 years ago, I was in the sand

Smiling at you with a volleyball in hand

Frederick Street Park was where we first met

A day I know I’ll never forget

8 years ago we bought our first home

Moved in with our cat, no more to roam

We endured some hardship for the next few years

Our love never wavered in spite of our fears

As fate may have it you had 3 surgeries

Two years found the limbs through our house from the trees

I lost my career, the economy to blame

The Summit Fire surrounded us with embers and flame

I found a job, but it was too late

Not enough time to set ourselves straight

After 4 years of struggle, we finally gave in

We had to let go for a new life to begin

We trusted in God for a new little place

Where we could continue with mercy and grace

You found a new job after 2 and a half years

Through it, a rental home, removing our tears

With sunsets and “Sammy the Steelhead” in the creek

Barn owls, mountain lions and bobcats each week

Badminton, fires and wildlife galore

Here’s our fresh start, a walk on the shore

I love you my darling “forever” you say

You mean it, I know it, you show it each day
